dumb question about cd audio connection

This is the first time I have built a system so please excuse my stupidity. I have a toshiba cd-rom, tdk cd-rw and sb live!value. How do I hook up the audio. Do I use the cd-in and aux-in connections? Also, I read somewhere about sending a digital signal from the drive to the card instead of an analog signal in Win2000. How would I do that? My card doesn't have the cd spdif connection. What is that for? Thanks for any help.

You can hook up your cd drives using internal audio cables to both the cd-in and aux-in connectors. The spdif connection is used to provide a digital connection to the audio card. My live value does not have a spdif in connector.

I think you can play audio digitally though by setting the drive to do DAE when playing cds. I'm not quite sure how to set that up though.

check your sb live for a little 2 pin spdif connection. if you have it on the sound card, use it. connect it to the drive you will play most of your music/games through, it does make a little difference. and that way you can hook your other drive up to the cd in and not have to use the aux in connection which i think sounds ooggy.
