Dumb question about ATI/nVidia demos, but it never hurts to ask...

I was wondering if it is possible for one manufacturer's card to play the demos of another manufacturer's card, as long as the card has the DirectX abilities.

For example, could I play the nVidia "Dawn/Dusk" demos on a 9800XT or play the ATI "Pipe Dream" demo on an FX5900? Or are they card specific?

ATI Demos will run on any card that has the relevent features to run it.
Matrox Demos require a Matrox card that has the features or a wrapper to run on non Matrox Cards that have the required features.
nVidia Demos require a nVidia card that supports the relevent feature. The nVidia Dawn demo can be run on ATI DX9 parts via a wrapper, see Rage3D for info.

By what way "No"?

nVidia Dawn Demo will run on ATI hardware with a wrapper.
ATI Demos will run on any hardware as they dont use any ATI Specific features, nVidia and Matrox Demos on the other hand, use manufacturer specific features, and so require a wrapper to run on other manufacturers cards.

But you need to modify something, out of the box, it doesn't work right.

Just lack back in the day when the 9500 was released. Was that a 9700 Pro for 200. Not out of the box.

Who said anything about being able to play it "out of the box" besides you, VIAN? The original question was "could I play the nVidia "Dawn/Dusk" demos on a 9800XT or play the ATI "Pipe Dream" demo on an FX5900?"

The answer is YES, YOU CAN.

The answer is YES, YOU CAN.

And the Pipe Dream demo doesn't need any modifications at all... download it, install it, run it, uninstall it, gawk at Dusk and Dawn :D

All the nVidia Dawn demo needs is a ATI Wrapper. Hardly big time modding. Just drag/drop.

Who said anything about out-of-the-box... all he asked was if it was possible.:p
