Dumb Q: 100 Mhz FSB & PC2100 DDR?

Hi All,

I am happy with my P4B533, Northwood 2.0 Mhz, 512 Mb PC2100, GF4200 gaming unit, but reading the posts here in this forum shows that I have a lot to learn on squeezing more speed out of this package. FI, I was not even aware that I have a very nice mobo for overclocking...

Dumb Question: I have PC2100 memory, which should be able to run at 133 MHz, while the FSB now operates at 100 Mhz. Can I safely set the FSB at 133 Mhz? What other settings should be made to get a stable system?

I think you mean 2Ghz 😛 And no, setting the fsb to 133Mhz will make the cpu run 2.66Ghz, which is a farily large oc for a 2Ghz (which usually don't oc well)

Unless you want to oc the cpu you should not change the fsb. You can change the speed of the ram alone though, in the bios there is a setting to run the ram 3/4 (which will make it run 133Mhz as it is compared to 100Mhz cpu), this option is in the same place in the bios as you change the fsb.

But probably your RAM is working at the speed of 133MHz anyway (this should be autosetting for your mobo and processor combination). Since, check out your BIOS settings.
