dumb ipod question

is it possible to copy music files from an ipod to a computer using itunes? or do they have to be present in itunes on the pc before the software will allow them to be synched?

I think you can with ephpod, I dunno about iTunes though.

with strictly itunes, you can not go from ipod to computer.
other programs can do it though, like ml_ipod winamp plugin (http://www.mlipod.com/)
or sharepod (http://www.sturm.net.nz/website.php?Section=iPod+Programs&Page=SharePod)

I prefer sharepod for this specific task because i just drop the .exe onto the ipod and run it from there any where i go.

Synching with iTunes is a one way street. You need Ephpod or some other third party software.

Gomy computer/tools/folder options/ show hidden files.
Now go to your Ipod, click on Ipod, music files, then copy all those files. THen paste.

ipod control => music, need to copy to your hard drive first...

there is a bunch of third party software that will let you do anything. at least if you have a pc. there is even one called mytunes that will let you suck all the "shared" songs off others folks computers if you are on a university network 😉
