My friend is still sticking with his old I810 based, celeron system. His HDD has died on him. Will 80 GB or more be compatible with I 810 chpset board? or shold he make do with 40 GBs?
The i810 is listed as supporting to ATA/66. i810E2 supports ATA/100. The drive itself may be backward compatible. I would definitely keep that in mind and also check with the mobo manufacturer to see if the BIOS would support it.
48-bit LBA support is independent of whether or not it supports ATA100 or ATA133. The ATA133 specification already includes the 48-bit LBA support; LBA-48 bit support can be added to ATA66 or ATA100 motherboards through a BIOS update if the motherboard manufacturer decides to release one.
