Hi all..I have a Samsung 16x DVD player...all it came with is a sound cable...does it need some kind of decoder card? When I go to play a DVD it says it's looking for a DVD decoder and can't find it....if I do need one, any advice on what kind to get would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks

You can use either a software dvd player or a dvd decoder card. Your system will do just fine with software decoding.
Powerdvd 2.55 is very good and you should be able to obtain a "trial" version online if you do a search for it.

PC Friendly is not a DVD player. You need either a hardware decoder card (Hollywood+) or a software decoder (WinDVD 2000, PowerDVD 2.55, Cinemaster 2000).

I have compared software DVD decoders on a 600MHZ Pent III with a Hollywood + card.

In my opinion there really WAS no comparison. Get a Hollywood +. There was a VERY noticeable difference.

The hollywood+ pass thru degrades 2d quality, if you can live with it then get it but software is the easiest way to go.
