Hey all,

Here is a goofy one. I have 2 runs of Cat5e, 1 about 60 feet and the other about 75 feet.

Neither one would work punched down into a wall jack, but both worked terminated with a normal cable end. Both terminate to a regular end.

Before you say anything read further,
They do work, however, with a short cable with 2 wall jacks punched down and then connected to the cable with a regular jack. Then placed into wall plate.

Couple of things,
They are punched correctly, not untwisted, good connection(I thought), and the cable is goodwithout kinks, sharp bends, etc.

Wierd.

Show me the money(ideas)

Thanks,
Bob

That would be my first guess as well. Lots of keystone jacks are color coded but not all are coded for both standards. Gotta make sure you plug them in in the right order based on the order of the cables on the other end...

I have ensured I am punching down the correct standard. I prefer T568B, but to make sure after I ran into the problems, I changed the crimped end to the A standard and still no go. Then I tried with several different Mod Jacks, no dice.

What really stumps me is that it works with 2 Mod jacks and a short patch cable punched down with the same mod jacks that when on the long cable wouldn't work.

Thanks for the idea's though, keep them coming.

If you have a break or kink in the cable it can cause this. Sometimes cables are just bad. Sometimes jacks are just bad. It only takes one pin/wire to be off.

the long runs of cable are solid core, right? Otherwise it ain't never gonna work.

Yes, they are solid core. I am buying more jacks today, but what gets me is that it works. If they jacks were bad or the cable was bad why does it work with a jumper cable in it made with the same jacks used?

I know it is screwy, but there it is. :p
