i deposited a check for $554 through an atm deposit. i accidently typed in $540 and by the time i realized it the envelope was sucked into the machine. will the bank automatically fix this for the correct amount? i will verify with them tomorrow to make sure.

I've done that before and the bank always caught the error and adjusted it for me. Even sent me a letter telling me about it.

I've entered too much before, it corrected it automatically. No letter though 🙁

They should fix it for you. If not you still have the pay stub right? And or contact the person that gave you the check and get a copy of it then take it to the bank....

yeah they would.

I once accidently set it for 2000$ deposit when it was a 200 dollar deposit..

never the less my acct corrected itself.. but it doesnt hurt to call up or check with teh bank tommorow.

oh memories of the days when I used to count the money people used to deposit in atms. yes, someone at the bank should count the money and correct the amount in your account.

Most likely the case is they count it to make sure you don't enter say..10x the ammount you really put in 😉 and vicea versa as well.

Don't worry, usually all non-cash deposits are verified by two people. Have anyone seen a Japanese ATM? I remember a few years ago when I was depositing yen bills in Nagoya, there is a banknote counter right where you put the money. The machine also counts the bills when you withdraw. Of course, there is always a nice smiling young girl standing nearby just in case 🙂
