I'm at home on dialup for the weekend, so I won't reply to flames today, but I'll get around to them sometime during the week. I really need to come up with a better format for pasting into ATOT. Sorry for the long scrolls. For the one person who asked last week: Villanova is killing the other AA teams - at least a 6 point favorite over any other AA team.

Yes LSU did. And LSU sucked or just scraped by in several cupcake games (the Western Illinois game has hurt them the most so far - at this point the program requires a team to win by at least 35 or so over such a cupcake otherwise a cupcake team brings you down). Overall GA has done better. If LSU keeps playing well, LSU will surpass GA in the ranking (Notice how LSU moved up from last week but GA stayed the same). But as of now GA played much better in its other games.

Note: since the rankings have about a +-7 point variation this early in the season, LSU and GA are tied in my rankings.

No method of rating teams will ever have all the winning teams ranked above all the losing teams - so it isn't worth trying to make a team ranking that does it. For example, there are always circles like this:

X beats Y, Y beats Z, Z beats X.

Now rank X, Y, and Z for me - and make sure the winning team is always above the losing team. It cannot be done. Thus no ranking will ever please everyone. Something else must be used - which is the other 5 games played this season. Just picking one game of the season (LSU vs GA) and basing your entire rating on that will eventually lead to problems where you cannot have all your winners ahead of all your losers.

The last one was popular, and this thread died. I'll try a one time bump. I want as much criticism as possible.

Utah at 36?? You're more crazy that those that ranked them at 28! They should be in the top 25. Period.

Ah there is the type of comments I was expecting. At the moment the computer is saying Oregon and Texas A&M are playing horribly (compared to what they have done in the past years). Losing to A&M is Utah's main pull down so far. Thus yes Utah looks great, but they still have no wins over a team that is playing well this year. But if you look at the ratings (differences in the rating is how the computer expects a team to do on a neutral field) Utah is just 3 points out of the top 25. Thus teams 25-35 are only expected to beat Utah by less than a field goal. Put Utah on a home field where the home team averages about 3 points, and the computer expects Utah to beat all those teams. Basically I'm saying those teams are roughly in a tie. When there are nearly 40 teams with 1 loss or less, this happens - a close tie between many of the teams. Things will sort out. If Utah can beat San Diego St. by more than 10 points, Utah will likely move up next week.
OSU at 15???
maimi of ohio at 14!!!!!!!
OSU is in a virtual tie with Miami of Ohio. Score is important in the program, and a 3 oint win over cupcake San Diego St. hurt OSU. As the weeks go on points will be less important and OSU may move up. Miami of Ohio has had convincing wins - puting it in a tie with OSU.
y is Pitt soo low? they beat a&m last week
Same reason that Utah isn't helped by A&M's low score this year. A&M only has 2 wins, and neither of those wins were convincing. Thus A&M is ranked #80. Not much bragging should be done from beating a team ranked 80.

Oklahoma is outright winning - with lots of room to spare. Thus if Oklahoma doesn't let down they look to be a clear shot to the national title game. But things are still early. Major changes might happen - injuries, poor coaching, etc.

So far it says Oklahoma over Texas by 15. But since it is at Texas, I'd personally give Texas a few more points. Lets say Oklahoma by 11. Being a native Nebraskan, I'd have to say go Texas - I like to publicly state my bias.
