I got this on steam a few weekends back for just 10£, wasnt going to get it based on reviews around the net. I am maybe 4 hours into the game at this point, and i have to say:

KICK ASS GAME.

Dont know what todays reviewers are smoking, but this is game is fantastic.. I find myself in between chuckling and lauging my ass off during gameplay.

Just had to get that outthere :)

Yeah, it's a pretty decent action game. I enjoyed it, glad to hear you did as well.

For that price, I might pick it up as well:)

Yeah, I picked it up for $10 during the sale too, but even for $10 I'm kinda regretting it. :/ It's not terrible, but... a lot of the extra "fluff" they added into the game really dilutes it. This includes the over-scripted on-rails sections that don't let you move, the driving sequences, the mini-games, the unnecessary puzzles... they really bring the game down.

I can't help thinking if DNF was more of a pure, oldschool-style run 'n' gun shooter, it would be way more fun. The gunplay is actually quite satisfying. But everything else manages to ruin it.

Even some of the environments are really ugly; the level I'm on is a construction site of some sort? Ugly brown and grey cement and dirt with various metal crates scattered around. Talk about the epitome of lazy and uncreative level design.

The humor is bad. Not a "so bad it's funny" kind of bad, but just... bad. :p

The demo did not impress me at all -- the aliens seemed to be gliding instead of walking, and the guns didn't feel powerful because of the weak animations, sound effects and lack of effect on the aliens. Borderlands did it all so much better.

I don't mind dated graphics, but Bioshock and Half-Life 2 both were more impressive to me as shooters when I played them for the first time earlier this year.

The only thing that I don't like is that there are literally no more than 3 enemies on the screen at once. Not sure if this is a gameplay design or an engine issue.

I enjoyed it myself. Thought it was a good old school type of game.

What's weird is that so many reviewers marked it down for sexism etc....wtf. Have they ever played Duke Nukem before? Why don't they mark down games for excessive violence then? Ridiculous - as long as the game is restricted to certain age groups then who cares. Lots of snobbery in gaming imo.

I bought it expecting some cheesy old school shooter and that's what I got.

It is exactly what a Duke Nukem game should be. I find the "Reviews" of it to be hilariously full of fail. They basically criticize the very basis of what made Duke3D so successful, then everytime come to the ridiculous conclusion that DNF doesn't add anything to the series and isn't true to the series. 100% wrong on both accounts.

Methinks the "Reviewers" just couldn't help but jump on the Hate DNF bandwagon. They seem unable to look at a game without buying into the Hype, or in this case the Anti-Hype, with little ability to standout from the crowd with Objective views of their own.

The humour in Duke games has always been a Love/Hate thing amongst gamers. Either you Love it or you Hate it, but regardless, DNF is true to the Duke Franchise and saying otherwise is cluelessness.

I even enjoy the Multiplayer, but unfortunately it's hard to find a Server with a decent ping.

Waiting on the $5, which I would guess we'll see boxing day.

This. I actually enjoyed the demo. Not really sure what everyone was bitching about, but of course I have not played the full game yet, so maybe it is lacking.

I got it during the $10 steam sale as well. Its a fun game there's just not enough gun play. Most of the time you spend in the game is either solving a puzzle or doing some mini game to fill the gaps, so it ends up being 5 minutes of combat and 20-30 minutes of go find the battery up on the tallest part of the tower etc. Works for Halflife... doesnt work for DNF so much.

The usual complaints land somewhere inbetween

- The Ego 'health' bar... I Guess it's so more 'realistic' to run around picking up medpacks? If the Ego bar is not a testament to the humor of this game i dont know what kinda 'heavy device' they can hit you with to pounce in the point!

- Sexism, not fitting in 201x. Holy Crap, U need to grow a pair, loose em, and grow a new set. Rest of us did in that decade.

- Simplistic maps and straight forward story mode. Each to his own, i am liking the story i am being told. I knew it was going to be different, and that it was.

Much of the review-agony i've been reading on the net is quite similar to comments i get from friends/acquaintances that goes to the movies and see a flick like the matrix or lord of the rings... they'll come out and say "shit movie, none of that stuff was realistic". "realistic". No shit sherloc, wrap your mind around what you are diving into BEFORE the experience... if you want your moneys worth.

I was stuck on that part for about a hour thinking wtf till i realized those barrels sitting on top of this one crate have to go into the crate that's leaning upwards...all of them have to go in and all the way in.

Then you jump in and you have to run out and jump onto that platform and run over the wall....very stupid i think .

Edit:I nearly blew a headgasket trying to save this woman when i was shrunk in this kitchen flooded and every time you die she screams man did that piss me off more then anything ever in a game .

just finished it. Epic.
I suppose i am not your average audience, but this game was a blast, here is hoping for a II.
On a sidenote, i've got deus ex human revelation sitting next to duke, half way done or something, not really cutting it, duke was a much better exeperience for me.

DNF and DE:HR shouldn't be compared, IMO. 2 very different games. Biggest difference being the Tone, DNF being Comedic, DE:HR being more serious SciFi.
