That and Duke is...expensive. Now I would be impressed if students at a public university were given ipods.

yeah, saw that earlier today...I think it's great.

I had more to say about the effects of finding new music...but oh well, I figure it'll just turn into a debate anyway.

Its amazing what close to $40,000 in tuition can get you these days.

edit: I think the real deal was back when IBM and UNC first started the Carolina Computing Initiative (requiring all freshmen to have a laptop.) While the standard pricing was ridiculous ($2,500 for a $1900 notebook) you could apply to the school for a grant and almost 90% of the grant requests were approved the first year. I worked at the computer store and I saw friends who's parents were doctors and bankers getting the then brand-new T21 laptops for the grant price of $795. Not bad!

When she arrives Aug. 19, her iPod will be loaded with all kinds of useful information, including orientation schedules, calendars, campus tours, even the Duke fight song.

Students also can use them for course content, such as recorded lectures, music, language lessons and audio books. Throughout the year, they will be able to download information through a Duke Web site modeled after Apple's iTunes site, where people can download songs legally.

Not only the the the iPods cost is tacked into the tuition, I bet the officials at DUKE probably made some money(or perks or whatever) under the table by striking such a deal with APPLE, since this is great publicity for both sides.
