It's taken so long to come out that many gamers out there are barely familiar with eh Duke Nukem games

Duke Nukem Forever has been in production way before Max Payne.
I think it was originally designed for the Quake 2 engine, but then soon after Unreal came out, they changed to the Unreal engine.

Yep, DNF has been in production way longer than Max Payne. Sorta reminds me of Prey. Anyone remember Prey's 4D? You could supposedly have a seemless room where you walk out the west side and enter back in the east using special portals. Sorta like what Q3 has now where you can look into a portal and see people in a different room, except more interactive. Too bad Prey turned into vaporware!

Aww...man. I remember Prey. I probably have the PC Gamer around here with the E3 screenshots. Damn that did look so cool.
