I believe there's a study that says ironically the person who is drunk is more likely to survive since their bodies are more relaxed from the alcohol during impact.

Yes. Due to slow reactions they don't tense up as quickly at the impending crash or they're not aware of it at all. It's that tensing up which generally contributes largely to injury.
The best way to handle DUI is a once-and-done policy. You get caught once, you lose your license for life.
Agreed. You should lose the privileged after the first incident. In this day and age, there's no excuse for you getting in the car when inebriated other than extremely poor judgement.

Fuck that I'm-in-college-so-I-must-drink shit.

Indefensible. "It feels good". For fucks sake... how many lives has it wrecked?

I'm not defending their actions or decisions or anything. I drank heavily freshman year, but I quit cold turkey soon after that since it wasn't doing me (or my meds) any good. All we know is that the driver was drunk, with a high probability that the other occupants were as well. Even though they were drunk, I find it harsh to say "good riddance, they had what was coming to them" simply because one mistake cost them their lives.

As you so succinctly put in the last part of your last sentence.

We should do the same for people that drive without enough sleep.
People that ever text while driving.
People that eat or drink while driving.
People that change their radio station or play with their GPS while driving.

If only that constitution thing didn't prevent random stops.

I think it's more a problem that penalties aren't strict enough. People who've had more than one DUI should not be allowed to drive anymore. The fact that we give them their license back after repeat offenses just serves to tell them it's not really that bad of an offense.

DUI and driving without a license should be much, much stricter laws..."Do not pass go" type laws.

That's a reasonable response to a bunch of people being killed in a car accident. "Meh, at least their driver was drunk." Bravo.

you're right

its unbelievable how such a tragedy could have happened. i mean the kids parents should have magically appeared and stopped him

If the US would implement Europe's DUI policies (forgot which specific countries, I think Denmark and Germany were two of them) then drivers with prior DUI convictions wouldn't have licenses. I would support that sort of change.

Isn't that a bit excessive? I can flip through my radio presets on my steering wheel without taking my eyes off the road. Different story if you're scanning, but twelve presets should be plenty.

Drunk driver that hit and killed my uncle was driving on a suspended license from the last half a dozen DUI's he picked up. A lot of good that did.

This is odd timing. I got an email today at work stating that a coworker had their daughter killed from a drunk driver over the weekend. Not the same as in the OP though.

Going to have to agree with Hamburger's sentiment that at least it was the people in the drunk's car.

Not celebrating their deaths, best if they lived, but I'm assuming the other car was significantly more innocent seeing as how they were on the right side of the road.

Yeah, in thinking about what I said losing a license won't stop a drunk person from getting behind the wheel. Still, the US could implement harsher punishments. Plenty of European countries have a limit of 0.02-0.05, levy fines as much as one month's pay less tax, and impose prison sentences.

WYD was posting this at the other place, and he wanted someone to re-post it here.

THIS is the problem. If those jealous micreants were so interested in posting, here, they shouldn't have militated to try to spew their own shit on our forums in the first place.

Personally, I'd remove the thread and ask the OP to inform the f f d t crowd that once they decided they didn't like posting here, anymore, that AT is no longer available to them, either in person or by proxy, and they should post in whatever shithole is avaliable to them.

So you can defeat the word filter without repercussion? Pretty cool.

The majority of "those jealous miscreants" were banned here for unjust reasons. If you could wrap your fragile mind around it, you might understand the root of the problem.

This has been an ongoing problem for a while now, don't try to pretend it just started.

Also, it seems this "shithole" is what's available to them. If you want to lower yourself to such petty insults. But if that's the best you can manage to take a shot at FF DT.info, then so be it.

Second accounts are not allowed on these forums and are grounds for ban.

AnandTech Forum Guidelines
8) Only one account is allowed per person. If you've been given a vacation or a ban, do not create a new account. Instead, please discuss the matter with our moderators via the Moderator Discussions sub-forum which you will still have access to for the duration of your vacation. We have various ways to check if accounts were started by the same person. We will also permaban new accounts based on strong circumstantial evidence or the appearance that they may be secondary accounts.

You do realize that WYD and several other recently banned members were banned only for posting at F F D T?
They didn't decide that they didn't like posting here, Perk did that for them.

That is SO not true. Although I had to laugh when I read you telling HARVEY, of all people and of all forum admins, that he doesn't know what is going on but you do. You'd better duck and run for cover. Harvey takes no prisoners. See you when the smoke clears. 😱 😱 😱 😱

Can you or anyone else point out where in the guidelines it allows permanent bannings without warning of people based on what other sites they decide to sign up and participate on or pictures they post on sites not owned or controlled by the owners of this site? That is one hell of an unannounced change of culture you guys are pushing here.

We do not ban members for the actions you refer to. We do ban members for a variety of reasons, as outlined in the forum guidelines, up to and including members who severely disrupt the community:

AnandTech Forum Guidelines
3) Banning a member (permaban) ? Members who have had many warnings and multiple vacations for the same offense, heavy spammers, bad traders, or those who have violated one or more US laws are eligible for a permanent ban from the Forums. Permanent bans will not be given lightly and only as a last resort for members who severely disrupt the community. Beyond usernames and email addresses, we may also ban IP addresses. Only Senior Moderators are given permission to permanently ban a member.

Yeah, sorry about that. I intended to post the message in a mod discussion about this thread and others. If you want to search for my posts, you'll find that I don't make a habit of circumventing the spam filter, but I hope you understand that our mods need to be able to discuss banned and censored spammer web sites, etc. 😳

I'm not pretending anything, and you're right about one thing -- it has been an ongoing problem since those who started the first of the series of four letter named sites (since I shouldn't bust the filter again) were AT castoffs whose primary intent was to cause problems on our forums.

However, you're wrong about them being banned here for unjust reasons. If you've seen any of the foul personal attacks or any of the mean spirited graphics they've posted about our staff and members, I can't understand how you couldn't wrap your fragile mind around the idea that we would ban them. If you haven't seen them, you're speaking in ignorance.

Also, it seems this "shithole" is what's available to them. If you want to lower yourself to such petty insults. But if that's the best you can manage to take a shot at FF DT.info, then so be it.

That's the point. They were crapping all over our forums, and now, it is no longer available to them.
