I practically grew up at Whitsett.

My father was extremely involved in scouting, so every year for as long as I can remember we would go up in the spring to help open it up, come back in the summer for two weeks with our troop, and back again in the fall to help shut it down. I LOVE that place! I was last up there in the mid eighties. :(

Do they still allow scouts to go to BA falls and the waterslides?

I visited the website, and it appears they've made a lot of changes up there since I was last there. When we were there, the only thing at each camp site was a marker with outhouses and showers in between them.

i wouldnt know... i spent a grand total of less than 2 hours in the main camp.. most my time was spent at whittsett siera.

the camp itself, from what i saw.... i liked mataguay better. the trading post at whittsett doesnt trust you at all, which kinda dissappointed me. i realize they have a lot of thieves.. (which sucks among scouts) but i hate not being trusted... and the only shampoo they had was this HUGE bottle... so i learned that you can in fact wash your hair with soap. works rather well i might add.

the fire that happened a year and 2 weeks ago torched a huge amount of the vegitation, and the bears were driven out of the shelterless barren lands into the lands that had trees... so the main camp has been having bear troubles... a lot more than usual.

the fire also torched all of whittsett siera, so they put up brand new tents and platforms, and bathrooms, and hot water showers. it was nice having a hot water shower when you got back from the backpacking.

all in all, i'm a computer geek, not a fitness guru. if i made it to my target weight (200... 260 now..) then i would consider doing more backpacking and strenuous adventuring.

anyway, this was my last campout with that troop, being as i'm an adult now (18... went this time as a venture crew member)... so i guess i'll be spending more time either exercising or coding. whichever suits my fancy at the time.
