I heard about this on NPR this morning. Apparently there are concerns with discipling special ed students.

I bet the kid stopped disrupting class.

I'm 27 and if we were bad in the 5th grade, we would have to hold books in our outstretched arms for several minutes at a time, run laps for an hour, or do pushups. We had little disruption. 😛

It's about special ED kids.. so yeah they are disruptive...

And yeah you generally stop disruption when you die.

Ah, well, I can't think of any case where sitting on students (Special Ed or not) is the best approach. I've had family who worked with Special Ed students and it can be really difficult.

Sitting on them though?

You know, if I saw somebody trying to restrict a kids breathing, I'd probably punch them in the throat as hard as humanly possible.

I have two young (9 and 11) mentally disable sisters, anybody tried that shit with them and I'd be doing more than that to em.

Wow, I would be with you on that one.

A big part of the problem is a push for inclusion programs where special ed students are co-mingled with the rest of the student body. Teachers who have none of the proper training required to deal with special ed students' needs are now forced into a situation where they have to teach and discipline them while trying to keep the rest of their students focused. It's really not fair to anyone (students or teachers) in my opinion.
