been rehired as a consultant.

(CBS) ? CBS News correspondent Gloria Borger reports that Michael Brown, who recently resigned as the head of the FEMA, has been rehired by the agency as a consultant to evaluate it's response following Hurricane Katrina.

Nepotism and cronyism before competence, of course! There are some things that are just too pathetic for words.

Later this evening, CBS News correspondent Gloria Borger spoke with a spokesman for FEMA, Russ Knocke, who confirmed that Brown remains on the FEMA payroll. He also said that technically Brown remains at FEMA as a "contractor" and he is "transitioning out of his job." The reason he will remain at FEMA about a month after his resignation, said the spokesman, is that the agency wants to get the "proper download of his experience."

ROFL!! They want him to sh-t all over them again!! Unfrakinbelievable.

It's all about the old-boy political cronies network taking care of their own.

I watched the MSNBC special yesterday on "Hurricane Katrina: What Went Wrong?", and regarding the Federal government's response, my opinion is that these people (the leadership at the top) are so damned incompetent that I'm amazed the country runs at all.

Only a month, that's not too bad. I think they should try and get to the bottom of where Brownie downloaded his resume from. That seems more relevant.

This is bizarre - I wonder if it's being reported accurately. I literally don't think there'd be a worse person to pick for this particular job, and I find it hard to believe that even the Bush administration is this incompetent and arrogant.

CBS News' Bob Schieffer just announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has rehired ex-FEMA chief Michael Brown-- as a consultant to evaluate the agency's response to the disaster!

From CBS's Katrina blog: "Sept. 26, 2005 /6:44 p.m. (CBS) ? CBS News correspondent Gloria Borger reports that Michael Brown, who recently resigned as the head of the FEMA, has been rehired by the agency as a consultant to evaluate it's [sic] response following Hurricane Katrina."

CBS says they've confirmed Brown had been rehired. Brown resigned after taking heat when a Time Magazine article revealed that he had padded his resume with bogus jobs.

The Associated Press, however, tells the story differently: "Brown is continuing to work at the Federal Emergency Management Agency at full pay, with his Sept. 12 resignation not taking effect for two more weeks, said Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke."

Brown had been shopping his resume in Washington. Wrote U.S. News' Washington Whispers last week: "Ex-FEMA Administrator Michael Brown seems to be doing for his career what he did for the beleaguered agency. Less than a week after FEMA's dismal Hurricane Katrina response forced Brown out of the agency, he has been shopping his resume to headhunters and Washington PR firms. And it's not working. "He's radioactive," said one exec. An ally of Brownie in the PR world said he should have waited a month before starting his job hunt. "It's just a bad play."

DEVELOPING....

I must say that this is quite possibly the most attrocious thing I could possibly imagine. Politics in general disgust me and the fact that the American public is so out of touch with what's going on around them with their leadership is equally sickening.

Eeeeeyup! He landed a spanking new upper middle class job allright! I knew someone in the Bush burgeousie would take care of him. Did I not say that in the thread I posted earlier about when he'd get a new $200,000/year job?

Meanwhile, millions of hard working, often highly intelligent Americans go unemployed or underemployed. This is just an awesome, almost irrefutable example of economic injustice and of how meritocracy is a myth in our superficial, "it's who knows you" networking, interview skills society.

Nothing new, lifes is all about who you know and relationships. So get off your computer out of your domicile, whatever and make relationships, network etc... if offers are not coming, Honestly I can't think of one job I got I did'nt know I'd get going in and knew the peeps hiring personally. Why do you think people join civic and religious orgs like Chamber of Commerce, Masons, Rotary, Fraternities and sororities? Opportunities, purpose and relationships.

Good relationships is merit since it's always better to go with a known/trusted/freindly quantity. You don't want a hermit or anti-social person working for you.

Yes, but.....

From Ed Henry
CNN Washington Bureau
Tuesday, September 27, 2005

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A congressional panel on Tuesday is expected to scrutinize the decision to keep ousted Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown on the federal payroll.
CNN story

I wonder what the congressional panel's definition of *scrutinize* is.....

The Federal government doesn't generally sign employment contracts for civilians, and if he's resigned, he's already breached it.
