Yea, use the WinXP installer. You can partition drives before installing everything. Does the Dell verision of XP not allow this?

Nope, Dell preloads the PCs with XP (Pro in my case) and just takes you through the setup of the admin password and user accounts, etc

My laptop came with an OEM WinXP installation CD. It's just like a regular WinXP disc, except it comes with some Dell software preloaded. You'd have to reformat to use the partitioning tool though.

search "partition" for some wacky free linux tool, or just buy Acronis Partition Expert ($49, downloadable version will burn you a bootable CD).
