WHAT THE F*CK IS THIS S*I*!!!!

Fresh install of Vista Ultimate from a brand new Retail version (unopened till this install) and its saying "The product key you have type is already in use" and I know i typed it correctly.


Could someone have stolen the key?

I had the same thing happen just the other day, retail office 2007 same error. I didnt bother calling... well my error was different i think it said to many installs? Fresh 7 install... anyways i own the damn licence so i can activate it any way i want. Morally that is and that iss all im worried about

the last time I added hardware to my Vista install, i didn't have to get another key code so

I agree with the ideals and principles. I think, one time, I also got slammed for using the letter "S" followed by a few asterisks. Even so, I know where the OP is coming from -- he didn't get far along the yellow-brick road to total frustration.

There is a time and place to use what means are necessary. To make people waste time out of their day to register again isn't in agreement that Microsoft signed with me.

EDIT: if each employee from MS would do something for me 6 minutes out of the day everytime this happens then hey, no one is cursing over here. do you get me? but no, i don't think they would want to do that when maybe they're at home feeding their kids or late for work or cramming studying time, or doing chores, etc etc regardless of what they may feel why we have to do this everytime a piece of hardware is changed.

What did they ever do for me besides sell me a piece of software.

Don't be mad at microsoft or one of it's employees, be mad at the pirate haxor community that used a key generator that randomly generated your key and got used. If you get that bent out of shape over something so mundane I'd hate to see it when you have a bad day at work and run out of roast beef to make sandwhiches for your customers at Subway.

Actually, yes it is. Start > winver, click the license-terms link, and go on down to section 5b.

My experience is that you'll have to change a ton of hardware before retail Vista Ultimate will ask for reactivation. Your main problem here, assuming your Vista Ultimate is not an out-and-out counterfeit, is that someone else has a copy of your key and is using it. See if you can exchange your copy of Vista for another one.
