Also you are correct, I don't live in manhattan anymore (too little space, too much money), I am in a nice area of Newark (yes there are nice areas ;)) 10 minutes from the city. I got a subway 5 blocks from my place and 2 bus lines that go directly to Port Authority. I miss living in the city but not that much and not when I am still a stone's throw away.

Where did you move to and how long ago?

South Texas, back in 1993. :) My family is in all five boroughs and South Jersey. I go home about once every 18 months or so. I don't miss it. Well, the museums. The Cloisters, MOMA, the Hayden Planetarium (laser FLOYD!!! :D) but that's it.

I've used Kenwood amps almost exclusively for the past 10 years. I've blown a fuse exactly twice. That's it. For the money, IMO, they are a best-buy.

Sure, there are quieter amps. More powerful amps. But they are also a lot more costly. I will admit that w/the gains UP, Kenwoods can be a bit hissy sometimes, but that's why you buy high-wattage amps so you can keep the gains down. The gains on the 943 (front stage) are at 0. :) I had them at about 2, and blew my first set of midbasses. Thank you, Infinity Warranty Shop. :)

I've got an honest 600 watts RMS in my truck; and it didn't break the bank. I like them.

That's cool. The shop I worked at carried Kenwood but we never really sold their amps to anyone unless they bought a Kenwood head unit and had some hangup about making everything in their system the same brand.

At the time I liked to recommend Orion, Precision Power, or Soundstream amps and then fell back to Alpine for the economical choice. Altec Lansing also used to make some kick-ass amps and speakers too before they got out of car/home audio.

I haven't been keeping up for years now, but I need a new amp for for my system now so I've been getting interested again lately.

You need to see the Planetarium after its recent upgrade. I haven't seen a show yet but I walk by it often. I've been told it's incredible. Even from the outside it looks incredible! See pic

I'm looking for a new amp...

I have been semi-looking for a really powerful 5-channel amp to run my entire system from. The 3 amps I have in there now take up a lot of room. :(

I found a few, but none are less than about $1,500. :Q:Q:Q Waaaaay out of my league. I could lose one amp, and power the front and rears off one four-channel, but that would cut my front stage from 230 watts RMS (I like it loud. :D) to 100W rms.<---blech. :p

Not worth losing that much wattage.

:QTHAT'S the Hayden?:Q OMG...it's beautiful...it looked nothing like that the last time I was there about 11 years ago. Wooooow. I need to go back and visit soon!!

Thanks a lot, dakels; I would never have even ventured into Manhattan when home. I will go to the Hayden. It's on 5th...on 70-something, right?

There are 2 types of guys at clubs: 1.) Ones that can't dance and are there to pick up drunk chicks and 2.) Gay guys with their female "friends"

Yep! Orion subs here!

OK Michael, I had a friend of mine take some pics of my install with his digicam, just going to wait for him to send me them. Should have them tomorrow :)
