Dude, my college is SOOOOO dumb!!! **day before school starts rant**

Alright, so my classes start tomorrow, and I have yet to print a hard copy of my schedule (I registered online for all of my classes). So tonight I was getting ready making sure that I have everything I need, so I went to my school's website (https://cpnta.gc.cc.fl.us/csrs/) and it turns out that they only allow access to their servers w/ your transcripts while the school is open - they shut the server off at night!!! :| I think that one of my classes starts at 8am, so waiting until 7:30am for the server to come online is going to be pushing it - all of this just so I can get my freakin' schedule! :frown:

They probably just drop the DB at night for backups.

Sorry, many businesses/institutions do this.

Atleast it's just the first day. If you're late, it won't be so bad.

No, just embarassing as hell!!!! Not to mention that the parking lots will be at their fullest (everyone usually shows up the first day, then drops out the second).

But for 12 hours, and all weekend?? I could see taking it offline for maybe 3-4 hours a night to do backups... but from 7:30pm-7:30am during the week, and 4:00pm Friday till 7:30am Monday?? :disgust:

I can't speak but out of assumption, but if it was a very large DB, running on an older system...like many school systems are...the backup and database health & maintanence could indeed take a while.

Actually, those are also the hours of the Admissions and records office. I still can';t believe this :frown:

Heh. Maybe the records are on a PC in the Admissions office and Suzy B. Computerretarded that's been working in that office for 50 years shuts it down every night before she goes home and turns it on when she comes in.

Yeah, but he has the added bonus of not going to that school up north. The one that lost to the National Champions in November last year. 😛

Yea, but I get out like May 4th 😛
My last day of classes last year was April 20. Finals ended four days later. 🙂

mine does that too, and they raise tuitions every other quarter to keep out the minorities

Uh riiiiiiiiight. Nearly EVERY state has raised tuitions SIGNIFICANTLY over the last couple years. States are in budget chaos. There is no money to fund schools so schools have to in turn raise tuition to make the bills.

Same thing here in Iowa. Tuition has gone up an average of 15% over the last three years.

The year before my wife started her pharmacy program tuition for that specific program doubled in tuition....plus all the extra school wide increases. BAH!

I was in Minnesota recently and remember seeing some things on the news about MN raising tution a heafty amount as well.

Well, then screw you!!!! 😛

That blows.

The internet at our dorms is pretty flaky 🙁 Constantly going down anywhere from 5 minutes to overnight 🙁

My school does that, too. It's completely retarded, no way in hell they can take 12 hours to backup 1 day's worth of changes to the database.
