I've been using Firefox for a little while now and while I really like it I've always been annoyed at how slow it is compared to IE. Lo and behold I come across the article here:

I modded Firefox with the general settings and those for fast computer, fast connection and now it just FLIES. Faster than IE even and with all the great things that are Firefox. Check it out, it'll convert you 100%

Thanks. I also added the general and Fast Computer/Fast Connection stuff.
It took me awhile to figure out how to add it. The file was "prefs.js" and I opened it with notepad in order to edit it. The file says not to edit it but if you edit and save it without Firefox being open then it will save the settings.

One of the most useful features in Mozilla/Ff is "typeahead find". If you want to find a link on the page, just start typing. For example, on an anandtech forums page, I coudl type "genera" (without qutoes), then hit ctrl+enter to open general hardware in a new tab. To search for regular text , type "/will have to " and you'll jump to JackBurton's post. I find that using browsers without it drives me nuts more than a lack of tabbed browsing.

Manually editing prefs.js is dangerous. If you make a mistake, there's a decent chance that everything after the pref you messed up will be wiped.

I decided to give FF another try starting yesterday. Between stuff like this, and all the use extensions I've installed, I don't know what in the world took me so long.

You mean "about:config" right? I don't think that has all the options. You need the .js file to make all the changes don't you?

I praise tabs all the time, but really, this is the feature I miss the most when forced to use IE.

Or you could just back it up first, I think that's common sense.

You can just delete it if you mess it up and Firefox will make a default one next time you start it.

Doing it in-browser is the easier way? With prefs.js all you have to do is copy, paste, and save. In-browser is right click, click, type, click, repeat .. 20 times :Q

What you guys should do is go here:

And look for all the ones that seem useful to you and try to use them and memorize them. I love the combo of doing ctrl+k to go to search bar, then hitting alt+enter to search in a new window. alt+D to go to the URL bar is nice too.
