Dell has got some pretty sweet deals going on untill Thrusday, like a P4 2.0A 256Rambus system for $700 (No Moniter) Now I have not bought an OEM system in years, but this is a pretty good deal although I know there is no way that I can overclock it through the bios. But is there any way to overclock it??? (isn't there a motherboard program or some thing) I would hate to waste all that power under the hood!!
thanx

Dude, you can't overclock a dell. You already got a decent speed there, don't need to overclock it anymore :)

Thats not that great of a deal ... I bet you can build one cheaper. They have a $300 off in mail in rebates, and add like $100 for shipping and tax and add Shi*ty dell tech support (one of the worst, HP is worse :D) And the dell motherboards that ship with the systems suck, Shi*ty performance and striped bios (no overclocking too :() I would not recomend a dell. Have you built a system before?

Other than the processor and memory amount, what other components does it have for $700? Geforce 3? dvd? cdrw? spill it all out.
It might not be an overclocker machine but if all the other components are great it should be worth the shot. I got nothing against dell mobos, supposedly they are intel oems... or is it?

No the other parts are not that great, IBM 40 Gig ATA100 Drive.. Geforce2MX 64 (Yuck) soundblaster live 256 Rambus and some bundle software...It is a good system if you do not want the hassle of trying to build one

<< DDR - w intel celeron 1.6a >>

I think he means DDR with intem PENTIUM 4 1.6A. That's what I'd recommend anyway. Btw, there is no intel celeron 1.6a

Overclocking a Dell. Interesting question...

Dell has always used Intel motherboards, which do not overclock. I hear that the new Dell's use MSI boards. If this is indeed true....I wonder if you could flash the mobo with an MSI BIOS and then......?

GreatYogota...
I just bought a p4 1.6A myself and will try to overclock it today. By the way i will be using pc800 rambus.
From what i read in these forums, to verclock p4 with rambus you'd need a mainboard with a good clockgen, like the P4T-E with the ICS clockgen. Also people has many different experience with 8 or 16 device rambus. I will be using 8 device rambus. I can post my results later on when i got my parts :D
By the way the mobo costs like 170 and p4 1.6A is like 140 or something like that

That could be a very interesting endeavor.
