Ducting Mods

I'm currently running a 3500 venice with an xp-90 and 92mm Vantec Stealth on it. It goes about 1750 RPM all the time, so it's pretty quiet, and my idle temps are between 36c and 38C. However, when it's at full load for a while (during gaming) temps go as high as 49C. I was thinking about replacing the Vantec with a Panaflo L1A fan so that I can vary its speed on the fly using Speedfan (the vantec stealth controls itself, but is always in the ~1700 rpm range, and I can't change it). My question is should I also invest in a ducting mod with the panaflo? Could I then change the fan to suck air off the heatsink and point it at my exhaust fan?

If you can draw room temp air directly into the CPU cooling fan with a side duct, then you will be able to reduce the CPU temp by about 3C. That said, 49C is a very good number at full load.

yeah but i'm just talking about those little ducts that you put on the heatsink and they tilt the fan at an angle to eliminate the "dead spot" underneath. Do those work? What about sucking air off my xp-90 instead of blowing air on it?

I haven't had any problems with these, but I didn't do any benchmarking with vs without them. When I installed this on both of my processors, I was fairly disappointed, as the HSF and the ducting mods didn't change the temps much at all from when I had the stock coolers on there. But oh well. They aren't hotter, so it works for me.
