Okay.. my intake for my car came today-- and just as i was finishing up with the installation, i realzed that one of the rubber couplers is missing. pic I'm supposed to have 2 of those rubber tube things so i can fit the pipe in between the blue pipes. make sense? Its a 3 inch inner diameter rubber tube.

I called AEM, and they're going to ship me a replacement.. howeever, until then-- i need to be able to drive. NO stores at all in the area carry rubber tubing with that large of a diameter. So, my thought is that for temporary purpoases, until the replacement comes.. i could just ductape to hold things together. Will this work?

what should i do?

i'll get more pics up in a while.

update:

okay, so here is my temporary solution, i took a piece of rubber tubing from the stock intake... it was only about 3/4 of an inch long though. so i made a ducttape tube first, and put that around the pipes, the i took the short rubber hose from the other intake, put taht over these two right at the joint, and tightened it up as much as i could. Then i took electrical tape, and sealed up everything really good and made sure nothing is going to shift around or move.

this will at least get me going so that i can search around town for another tube, or pick up a piece of pvc liek MichaelD suggested. The replacement tube should get here friday I hope, becuase i go back to school on sunday.

oh well.

i'll get pics and everything up as soon as possible. also made a recording of engine sound before and after the intake.

now for a test drive.

Possibly for very short term, just make sure it's not near the engine block or exhaust manifold.

Do they come in contact with eachother and just have to be coupled with the little rubber thing or does it need that long of a tube? Either way, as long as you take time and make a quality tube so that it also isnt sticky on the inside as it could potentially collapse and be a pain if not impossible to work because it sticks together = no airflow it should work. As long as its temporary though, if its a smooth and round tube and you can make it..it should work for now...atleast i have no idea why it wouldnt, it just ducts air.

Looks like you've learned the hard way one of the DIYer's most important lessons:
Always verify that you have all the parts and necessary tools BEFORE you start the project.

*IT'S ALLRIGHT EVERYONE, STAND BACK...MICHAELD IS HERE!*

1. Go to Home Depot/Lowes
2. Buy 1-foot (they sell it by the foot) of 3-inch PVC pipe
3. Buy a hacksaw (unless you already own one
4. Go home
5. Cut a piece of the 3-inch PVC to the length you need
6. Use the Duct Tape to hold the PVC/other pipe together
7. Drive carefully until the real piece comes in
8. Thank MichaelD for sharing his wisdom

You have one connected to the intake manifold.. and one to one of the connecting pipes.. What else do you need? This isn't a three piece intake is it? :Q

BTW, nice intake. I have the same one.. same color. Different car obviously. ;)

the MAF sensor (?) goes in between to the 2 blue tubes. so i guess, in a way-- you could say its a 3 peice intake.

Did you have a picture of this MAF sensor? I'm still lost.. maybe it's because on mine, I just had to put the two pieces together with the silicon ring, then attach it with another ring to the intake manifold, and plug in those smaller tubes to their appropriate spots on the intake.

You can get aluminum tape, the stuff used for ductwork. It is available at most hardware stores, used for the ducting of exhaust vents for kitchen hoods and such.

You can't just return it to stock for the time being until your part comes in?

the end product so far

imported: the MAF sensor is the black tube there with the wires coming out of it, that hooks up to the cars internal computer to help calculate air fuel ratio mixtures... as far as i can tell.

nutbucket: becuase the directions told me too.

okay.. well, 6 hours later, drove around with it all day-- and i must say: it kicks ass. i love it. i cant wait until my new hose comes so i can have it permanantly attached.

the sound it makes now is really cool too.

3 cheers for new intakes.

Looks nice. I see what you meant by the MAF sensor.. didn't know it was another tube.

You need to disconnect the battery, wait 5 or so minutes, and then reconnect it and let the car idle for 5 minutes.. shut it off and then restart so the ECu can relearn the air intake flow. That's what I've always been told.
