Man, I'm so tempted to buy one of the 2014 models now that the new 2015 has been announced and is due in showrooms early 2015. My dealer has a brand new red S model with panniers in stock and they are willing to deal on it.

Ducati... why must you tempt me so?

Update - So, they're offering me a brand new 2014 Multistrada 1200 S at $3,100 below MSRP. It is red and it comes with the color matched Ducati side cases, center stand, TFT display, Ducati Skyhook Suspension and heated grips (the base model has none of these). Basically, the same as the pic I posted above. I'm very tempted.

Why shouldn't I buy this bike (trading my current bike in of course)? First thing that comes to mind is all the mods I've done to my bike. They want my bike with the mods as it is worth more that way (specifically, the Termignoni exhaust). I could sell the comfort seat and the tank and tail bag I have for it separately.

Then again, I would be starting over at zero miles with the factory warranty for 2 years/unlimited mileage. My bike is out of warranty and has just under 16,000 miles on it.

Also, valve check intervals on the Multi are every 15,000 miles.

Those are fun bikes, I'm not sold on the looks, but supremely comfortable and can carve pretty darn well.

Does the Multistrada S have the trick Ohlins electrically adjustable suspension?

Ducati calls it Skyhook suspension. It is electronically controlled and adjusts dampening on the fly. Works pretty well too in controlling dive under braking. It is not the Ohlins setup on the Panigale though. I believe Sachs makes the Skyhook suspension for the Multistrada. Although the new Multi I believe has an updated Ohlins package on the S model that might be even better.

Big question is......did Ducati source a better manufacturer for their gas tanks instead of returning to Acerbis for another round of not in spec plastic gas tanks?

Good looking bike, btw. I just wonder why you trust a company that, faced with problems with their plastic gas tanks, refused to do anything about them until hit with a lawsuit, unlike the response from other manufacturers like Triumph.

Because Ducati motorcycles are better than Triumph motorcycles?

The heart wants what the heart wants. I'm not entirely sure that you would understand...

What are they offering for your Monster 1100? If it's anything above 10k I'd probably take it...

That 11 degree Testrastretta engine is pure butter. On my Monster 1200S the fueling is perfect and it has power everywhere... DO IT

It isn't. My bike was $11,995 new. No way it would command that much 3+ years and 16,000 miles later.

Whoops yeah I forgot they jacked up the prices on the newer Monsters...

You sound like you're doing a lot of commuting on this bike. The Multistrada probably makes a lot of sense, the water cooling comes in handy when you're stuck in that SoCal traffic...

how easy would it be to make a private sale on your monster for a better price than what the dealer would be offering?

cause that multistrada deal is hella tempting :D

Not easy actually. Tis not the season for selling motorcycles, even in SoCal and I've seen a number of Monster 1100 EVOs for sale on craigslist since the new liquid cooled 1200s came out.

I think the deal they are offering is fair. Just need to convince the wife. :hmm:
