The most shocking part of this story (for me) is that Samsung is building it. I had no idea. Wonder how much this will finally cost.

Thank goodness no radical Muslims live in that part of the world to send a plane into the middle of it.

How the hell do they get the cranes off the roof when they're done? :Q

Chris Angel teleports them with his "powers".

Seriously though, i believe they are dismantled in some way and then lowered.

That is just begging to be smashed into by an airliner. At least, it's in a country where no one will care if it gets slammed or not.

Looks like they haven't put the windows on yet... I'm sure that will improve it.

Yea, you can see from the image that very little of the cladding has been attached yet. It should look pretty good when done.

Dubai is one of the coolest cities in the world. Hopefully I can visit there someday.

That was my first thought as well. Al-Qaeda can't be too happy with Dubai for being relatively pro-western. OTOH, they're still an Islamic country, and plenty rich enough to fund their own security.

It pisses me off that you cant do cool shit like this anymore in the U.S. due to labor disputes, environmental impact studies, yada yada yada. Basicly, you cant do shit here without giving a bunch of lawyers a bunch of money. It's like the modern day mob and protection money, only lawyers have the courts behind them.

You mean something like this?

Skyscraper construction is going berserk here in Chicago, including several supertalls under construction.

Many countries propose such massive constructions but few actually follow through (namely Dubai, the US, and China).

Last Suday's Travel section of the Detroit Free Press:
They are building the world's tallest building -- Burj Dubai, which stood at 108 stories when I was there, and was growing at a story a day. It will be constructed so it can be added to, should someone have the audacity to build something taller.
