Dubai is a pretty cool city, have a number of friends that live there, my sister was actually there for most of the year last year to see some of them and she loved it. It has a lot of impressive structures and is becoming a major tourist destination. One warning though... its HOT 45 Degrees Celsius in the day...

Yeh Dubai is an excellent city...i have been there many times..
A lot of things to do and see.. Delicious arabian food.

Can I take my girl there and go to the beach, hold her hand, etc and not worry about anything?

What about clubs? Do they serve alcohol?

Yes and Yes. edit - Make sure you go to a private hotel beach rather than the public beach though.

Some of the clubs in Dubai are better than most in the world.

Looks like I'm going to be going to Dubai 🙂

What's wrong with public beach? Crazy wackos?

Public beaches MAY have wackos. At the private hotel beaches, you get poolside bars (where you can swim up to the bar I believe), quality women!

I'd recommend the Oasis Beach Hotel or the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

You can afford a 250 dollar/night room?

Dubai is freaking awesome...
from all wht ive heard from my friends living there, and what ive seen in media.

hopefully a trip there within the next 2 years.

If you buy property there you become a citizen, correct? This is what I heard.

Anyone know the exact details of citizenship?

How much are the homes there?

Meh. I'll be more impressed when they build a state of the art waterpark with a water slide that actually propels you upwards through the use of ingenius nozzles.

I thought you couldn't buy property as a 'foreigner'?

Also haven't they set a deadline for when ALL building work has to stop? They apprently have 1/5th or 1/3 of the worlds cranes in Dubai!

Koing

how much would it cost to buy one of the continents?

btw Virgin Galatic is going to build a spaceport somewere in the southwest.

That looks cool and all, but its like a huge waste of money to build that many tourist attractions. When that oil money is dried up, will tourism alone support all these buildings?

The UAE is the only Arab country that doesn't rely purely on oil, AFAIK. Dubai is awesome.

Egypt doesn't have oil (well they do but its soooo small) and I'm pretty sure a bunch of other nations there don't have oil as well 😛

But it is the only oil rich Arab country that doesn't rely on oil.

What do they rely on then?

Combination of oil, tourism, banking, technology, trade, and their port is one of the busiest in the middle east.

1. Create tourism utopia
2. Infect tourists with made-made virus
3. Profit

Seems like they want an insane amount of tourism to that one spot... sounds and looks like a potential target for terrorists
