You can take your flying car from your underwater hotel to the indoor ski hill and then to the local spaceport (minus the flying car).

Looks like it's on my travel destination list for 2010 or so.

That looks cool and all, but its like a huge waste of money to build that many tourist attractions. When that oil money is dried up, will tourism alone support all these buildings?

Dubai doesn't have a lot of oil.

The UAE is the only Arab country that doesn't rely purely on oil, AFAIK. Dubai is awesome.

Egypt doesn't have oil (well they do but its soooo small) and I'm pretty sure a bunch of other nations there don't have oil as well 😛

But it is the only oil rich Arab country that doesn't rely on oil.

Doesn't Arab mean from the general Arabian subcontinent? I've always considered Egypt to be African, even if it is mostly Muslim and non-black.

What do they rely on then?

Dubai relies primarily on tourism.

30% of Dubai's GDP is oil. It is slowly being cut every year. Their GDP is growing at a rate of 6-8% so calculate that with current oil prices vs last year and every year it is slowly being cut by around 3-4%.

They have a lot of tourism and their technology sector is booming in the M.E.

Well Arabs are an ethnic group. They account for less than 15% of the Muslim population.

Here is a list (map) of the Arab nations:

Can I take my girl there and go to the beach, hold her hand, etc and not worry about anything?

What about clubs? Do they serve alcohol?

Yes and Yes. edit - Make sure you go to a private hotel beach rather than the public beach though.

Some of the clubs in Dubai are better than most in the world.

I think Dubai has a growing banking industry as well.

They need to build an underwater hotel like that in the Carribean. I thought that was the coolest building in the slideshow (well, maybe aside from the spaceport, if that becomes reality).

Looks like I'm going to be going to Dubai 🙂

What's wrong with public beach? Crazy wackos?

I guess there are some (really) small underwater hotels in the Carribean, with luxury ones in the planning stages. Maybe I don't have to go to Dubai afterall.

You'd be a fool to think Dubai isn't supported by oil even if they don't directly control large deposits. The money comes from the people and the people are mostly there with oil companies because it's one of the most stable places to be in the middle east.

Public beaches MAY have wackos. At the private hotel beaches, you get poolside bars (where you can swim up to the bar I believe), quality women!

I'd recommend the Oasis Beach Hotel or the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
