The S2462 is the K7 Thunder, not the Tiger.

1. Yes, assuming you don't get an XP processor that has SMP problems. (The SMP circuitry is not tested on the XP processors so there is a very slight chance it won't work.)
2. Each SCSI channel will support 7 devices. What you use depends on what you can afford. (size, speed, etc.)
3. The RAM must be registered. If it is not, the system won't boot.

Other things to note:

The board is extended-ATX size. It will not fit in most cases. You probably need a full tower case and it won't fit in some of those. It will fit in the Antec 1xxx series cases and also fits in the Antec 8xx series, but barely.

The board requires a non-standard powersupply which will run you $125 for the special Delta or NMB brands (there have been some reports of reliability problems with those) or the special PCPower & Cooling supply for $225.

With all that in mind, you would be better off getting the Tyan Tiger which is standard ATX size (full ATX tho) and uses a standard powersupply. Add in a SCSI card if you want.

-or-

Wait for the new 760MPx based dual boards from Asus, MSI, etc., that are starting to hit the streets now.

If you are getting the powersupply with it then you shouldn't have any problems. Make sure it'll fit in the case you plan on using, tho.

Try to get the SCSI cable with your trade. If you have to pick one up, an Ultra2/Ultra160 LVD cable will run you $35+.

that board should work just fine with XP's. Its the MPX boards that won't let you use them in SMP.

good luck :)

Not true. One of the boards, can't remember if it was Asus or MSI, had XP's disabled in a beta BIOS because they didn't want to take a chance while testing which started the rumors. The shipping BIOS works fine with XP's. A couple of review are already out on the MSI and Asus boards and they were tested with XP's.
