I am using a Supermicro X5DPA-GG motherboard with two Xeon 2.4GHz processors (400MHz FSB) with 512MB RAM. The OS being used is Red Hat Linux 9 and I am using Super Doctor (management software from Supermicro) to monitor the CPU temperature. My problem is that CPU2 is always hotter by 5 degrees than CPU1. I've tried to stress both the CPU's at 100% utilisation but even then the difference is visible. I tried with a second setup using a similar motherboard and in this case the temperature difference was 3 degrees. I don't know if it is normal for the two CPU's to have different temperatures. I am about to buy a 100 Servers and the vendor says it is normal but I would like to make sure. I've been searching the net for the last two days but could not locate any information on the topic.
Also, the CPU fan shows a minor difference in RPM's. One fan is at 3700 RPM whereas the other is at 3900 RPM. Cany anyone please help.
