I saw this today and thought that it would be a great 2K box for graphics work. I ordered it along with the two processor deal that i found searching for 'xeon' here.

I am going to try the overclock that is referenced and I will let you know how I do.

This is a good deal on a dual Xeon motherboard. However, do notice this board requires RDRAM. As we all know, RDRAM is significantly more expensive than it's DDR-SDRAM equivalent.

Let us know how the board works. Wish I had the dough!

looking at this MOBO, I noticed that there are no CPU heatsync mounting clips. Just holes. Do Xeons use some sort of special mounting clips for the heatsync and fan?

Maybe whoever gets this board can fill us in if it come with the retainer clips? If you have to buy your own... Where would you even get them?

Please post back when you get your MOBO shipped and how fast you can over clock your XEONS. I'd be interested in building one for fun for seti if I could over clock it to 2.2-2.4 GHZ speeds. That would make a total of 4 WU's running at the same time. Depending on overclockability you could prob get at least 25-30 seti WU's done. Maybe More. I am sure you'd prob want to get a pretty good size PowerSupply for this. Like a least a 350 watt or so.

The stock heatsink gets bolted on through a plate under the motherboard

as far as overclocking you are better off buying a Asus PC-DL or and Iwill DH800

Good deal if you have the parts lying around, especially the RDRAM.

Add a pair of Xeons for $120

Btw these are Socket 604 Xeons, which won't work in this board unfortunetely. You could try these:

1.8ghz Xeons at Compgeeks

You will also need some Xeon heatsink/fans which are uncommon aftermarket. Hopefully it comes retail packed with the HS bracket/plates.

Good luck!

Those MPX2's are very hard to find... YOU SMP RAT! :p

Computer Geeks has a Tyan Thunder i7500 dual Xeon MB for $144.50.
It's a non-special item, so you can hack 10% off that. ;)
