Dual X5660 (HP Z800) vs i7 5820k (overclocked) for video editing/rendering

Hey guys,
Long time reader first time poster.
I am at a crossroads. I am looking to buy a new video editing PC for 4k editing in real time using davinci resolve. I can buy an HP Z800 with dual xeon x5660 's for $550, or build a custom setup with the new i7 5820k.
I was looking at cinebench comparison of the x5660's vs a single i7 4790k, and the dual x5660's won. I then looked the cinebench scores of the 4790k compared to the 5820k, and the 4790k won.

So from that what I gather is the x5660's will beat out a single i7 5820k... or will they? confused, sorry.

For the GPU I will be using either a gtx 690ti or wait for the newer pascal gpu's from NVidia. For the display driver gpu I will use a firepro v7900 (for the 10 bit color output)

Both systems would have about 32 gb of ram most likely, or more. The 5820k system will be ddr4 ram 3200, and have the super fast samsung 950 pro m.2 drive, and will be overclocked.


Will the 5820 k beat out the dual xeons? With being overclocked, the ddr4, and m.2 ssd?

Even if it does not, would you think it might be worth it to get the 5820k system in order to somewhat future proof the system?

The 12 core, 24 thread machine will be faster than a single 6 core, 12 thread machine (even overclocked), but Resolve is also dependent on what GPU you are using. Either way you'll be fine, but the dual X5660's will be faster, especially if the video card used is same in both systems. Of course the newer X99 system is more future proof and offers better features.

Tough decision. I think I would go for the 5820K and make sure the board will accept the next gen 6-10 core chips
