dual vs single fan psu?

I'm looking for a cheap, quiet as can be psu and I see some are listed as single and some as dual fans. Is dual fans the normal thing & is it more reliable? Is it louder?

I'm just looking for a 300 watt for a P2B motherboard I have 🙂

Look at NewEgg. Fortron - P300XFPN 300W Power Supply Ultra Quiet, Air flow of 57 CFM with only 25 dB and below.
Power Supply Type: ATX
Max Power: 300W @ 70% output, Peak at 380W
1-120mm Ball Bearing Fan
P4 Ready: Yes Model#: FSP300-60PN $32.00 shipped

good fan speed control is probablymore important then anything. true powers supposedly control pretty well. the lower model sl series doesn't seem to vary speed at all😛 medium 99.9% of the time is kinda sorry. dual is better at fighting backpressure.

Check out SilentPCReview.com's forums. Two fans are for redundancy. A must for servers, an extra fan to be removed for us 🙂.

Edit: That Fortron PSU mentioned might be just what you're looking for with low price in mind.

Now that would depend on the particular PS and the quality of the fans used, wouldn't it? I have a 350w Antec, and its reasonably quiet with 2 fans. You can always swap out the fans, or disconnect one if the noise bothers you.

I went with the egg .... my current PSU has an interesting problem -- I have to push the cord on the back in to get it to start, once it starts running it's fine. I'm having to push harder and harder as time goes on 🙂

I know some people might suggest opening it up... I'm not quite an experienced PSU repair guy -- even though I know computers in general.

You can get a 300w for $35 or less that will last a good long while (sans nasty thunderstorms), so why open it if you aren't comfortable with the idea? I didn't know the Fortron ones were that cheap, myself--might have to get one 🙂. While you don't see many enthusiasts using them, open up some branded low- and mid-level servers, and you'll find a few Fortron and Enhance PSUs.
And:
Tom's PSU roundup--wierd selection, but a Fortron 350w in there and it did very well
