why is it that the 2nd cpu makes such a difference w/ seti? for instance my dual pII 450 does packets at TWICE the speed of my single pIII 1gig. granted the dual 450's have 1 gig of ram where as the 1000mhz has only 128mb but...

Hmmm.... please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in order to get dual from a PII it would need to be a Xeon II (as opposed to the PPros which were at least dual-capable)? If that's so, then that should explain some of it. I know that my Xeon II 400s do ~11hr WUs whereas my old PIII 450 took just over 12 hrs in comparison.

But regarding your PIII gig, there's something up there.... what's your times on both systems?? My PIII 600@972 gives me 6 hr WUs and your gigger shouldn't be that far off from that. Come to think of it, your entire dually system should come out with ~4 - 5 WUs/day, the same as your single PIII. :(

[EDIT: Unless you ARE doing alot of gaming on it! :p]

well let's see:

single pII 266, 128mb ram, 11.6% complete 14.25hrs
dual pII 450, 1024mb ram, 70% complete 12.75hrs
single pIII 1000, 128mb ram, 90% complete 34hrs
celeron 733, 256mb ram, 93.7% complete 51.5hrs
cyrix pr200, 96mb ram, 37% complete 135hrs!!!!!!!!!!!!! (running morpheus also)

this is the sceen saver version btw...

ACK!

Chant with me now... CLI CLI CLI!!! :p

In just about every case, the text client runs faster than the GUI and perhaps marginally faster if your GUI doesn't display the graphics piece.

It could be that the screensaver on those last couple machines is not set to go to "blank" (rather than displaying the pretty graphics). Alternately, it could be other processes are taking cycles away on those machines... :(

If you install CLI your times will drop substantially!

Mine:
AMD Athlon XP 1600+(@1800+) - 3:25
Pentium 3 1GHz - 6:50
AMD K7 500MHz - 12:00

Uninstall the GUI on all of them and follow the directions on my site to install the CLI. It's very easy and will more than double your speed.

Poof: I have a dual PII running s@h. Each chip has 512K. I get just over 2.25 WU per day from it ( 233mhz chips - Not XEON's)

Okay Wiz... Wasn't sure. :)

Must've been that transitional phase that intel went through... :p

Heheheh... I think my first dually was an old P90 pair. Good thing I didn't get one with the math bug ;)
Then I had a pair of P166's and then a pair ofP166 MMX that I overclocked to 233. That system is still running, dual P166's OC to 233.
I think my niece uses it for schoolwork and net surfing now.
