In SLI, what kind of FPS could I expect from dual 12MB voodooII's? In, say, halflife and Quake III?

Anyone?

Before recently going to a V3 3000, i had an V2 1000 SLI, it would do 60-65 fps in Q3A @ 800x600x16, and in MDK2 it would do 65-70 fps @ 1024x768x16, both with the 3dfx Standalone driver downloaded from Glsetup.com.

What kind of system? I'd be more than happy woth those kinds of FPS. Geoffs has been having shipping problems, but Monday I should finally have a new CDROM and a mobo+CPU combo giving me a Celeron 566@850. Soon I'll be able to ditch Win98 for Win2K.. run some software RAID on my 10 and 20 gig drives for a 20gig RAID 0 data partition along side my 10gig OS partition. SHould be nice.

Asus CUBX, celly2 566@850, 256mb CL2 Sdram, Maxtor DM40+ HDD. The SLI rig cost me $60 new after rebate, which is why i went with it. I recently went with the V3 3000AGP, cuz i was sick of messing with the P.O.S 2D card i had and the V3 cost me what a new 2D card would. I also liked the fact that i freed up 3 PCI Slots, and am finally using the AGP Slot. If you decide to go that route i would suggest going to GLSetup, com for the latest Open GL Drivers availible, cuz there is now an $7.95 charge for the Wicked3d Drivers.

Yes, the V3 is a good upgrade from SLI for the reasons listed.
Paid zero for my SLI setup after in store and mail in rebates!

Agreed (about saving the PCI slots, that is). Voodoo2 SLI will still rock in UT (love that Glide-enabled engine).

You'll get more than acceptable performance outta yer 2 Voodoo2's in SLI mode as all present and past games are engineered so that the makers can make as much money as possible by allowing the game to run on older systems acceptably as only a small percentage have Voodoo5s, Radeons and GeForce2/3s.

Note that it is my understanding from trial and error that Voodoo2 SLI DOES NOT WORK in Windows 2000, or works but locks up A LOT!

Other people have told me the same.

If you can get it to work, please let me know how! Superwormy@hotmail.com

I've never had a problem running either of my 3dfx 12mb V2 SLI or CLV2 12mb SLI under Win2k using the last set of beta drivers. It only supports Glide, but that's alright with me 'cause that's all I ever use either of my SLI's for these days.

Speaking of SLI's, is it necessary to have identical (same manufacturer) cards to a couple of Voodoo2 in SLI? For some reason, I always thought that this was the case. My other default thinking is that if you wanted to run 2 different V2's, say one made by Guillemot and another by CL, then you need to do a bunch of registry tweaks to make it work. Can anybody shed light on this?

I already have one V2 card and have always wanted to see how a V2 in SLI mode would work.

Thanks!

I heard that were a certain driver set that one could dl from the Net that were modded to accomodate different V2s in SLI.

It's best to find identical V2s, though, and save one the trouble. But nowadays, even that's difficult to do. One may be able to gain a couple frames (having each V2 doing double duty) and maxing-out the playable resolution from 800x600 (from 1 V2) to 1024x768 (from a V2 SLI combo).
