Dual video cards

I'm upgrading my PC (see other posts) and want to upgrade the video card as well. The option of two monitors would be nice but twin head graphics cards are expensive. Are there any drawbacks to using 2 separate graphics cards in one machine (ie a new one and my existing ATI All in Wonder pro)? I'm hoping to use Windows XP. Is "dual cards" supported by win 2k?
