Hi all,

Haven't been around for quite some time here but problems arise and i'm unable to find a knowledgeable person to ask this:

How can i use two different cards in the same system? I have a GTX460 and want to buy and FX1800 in the near future since i mostly spend time in huge cad and max scenes but ocasionally knock some heads off in games :D

The REAL question is: What am I supposed to do if I want to play a game on the GTX and work CAD on the Quadro without phisically taking one board out and in with the other? I don't think magic happens just by switching between dvi ports :p Logic sais that the unused board will still load and thus consume more energy pointlessly. I hope I made things as clear as possible, I'm not sure how else i can explain this.

Thanks.

not sure how well that would work. I have setup dual cards that use the same driver package, similar family lines and worked fine, but not with 2 card with different driver packages, nvidia has seperate drivers for the geforce line and quadro lines.

I know, that's why I'm asking... They really don't mix well in the same system but building another rig just isn't an option for me, at least not at the time being, for another 6 months or so AT BEST. Trust me, i'd like a workstation just for this end of the business, overall it draws less power and tends to be smoother in terms of workflow.

AFAIK that wouldn't work at all. If you really need the Quadro you'll probably have to swap out your 460 manually. BTW I have never tried this so don't take my word as an expert's.

I seriously doubt playing games on an FX1800, that's about as high as i can get considering the price tags and quite frankly i really don't need a super-pro one for what I do, this one's more than enough. I used to mod my 8800gt into an FX3700 but the lack of cuda for the modded drivers made the change last for about 2 days :p

So the answer is no... Well... if anyone has any suggestions, i'd be glad to hear them, otherwise, thanks for the help guys :) Much appreciated.
