dual vid card or pci and vid card

right now i've got an old rage 3d pci card running my second monitor and a GF4ti4200 running my primary monitor.. i recently got the dvi adapter so it will allow me to run dual monitors off the gf4 card. would this improve or slow down system speed.. or do nothing at all.
i run smartbarxp while i'm playing games so i cna glance at the time and weather etc on my second monitor while i'm gaming.. willl i be able to do this running both monitors off the gf4??

i'd go with 2 monitors off the 4200 just for the sake of controlling everything through one set of drivers
Nvidia's dual monitor support is also better (IMHO) I've never used smartbarxp but i'm using 2 monitors on a 4200 and get the same thing done using ultramon.

hope this helps

I prefer to keep my primary video on its own card, even if it has dual capabilities. Some have noticed no difference in performance, I have noticed some slowdown when I've dual'ed off my primary card so I dual on my secondary card (I run three monitors) and leave my primary as solo.

nVidia does have the best multi-monitor support and DEFINITELY stick with one manufacturer - don't go both ATI and nVidia else you won't be able to modify OpenGL settings, etc. without jumping through hoops.

And, I run mobomonitor and some other utilities while I game, showing up in the secondary monitor - they work fine, I'm assuming yours will too.

i've been running two companies... whoops.. guess that's a no no.. guess i've been doing this for years so i haven't really noticed if there is a diff.. but i get around 11-12k in 3dmark01 with the GF4 so i don't know if the drivers are having problems with each other.. i don't think i want to shell out for a new second vid card.. guess i should just make sure i upgrade to ATI next time i'm looking for a primary card???

k well if you see some slowdown running off the primary card i guess i'll stick with two cards... maybe pick up another monitor and run three?? lol..

thanks for the input guys.
