Dual socket 604 chassis

I'm wanting to take some spare parts I have (2x3.2Ghz socket 604 xeons with 2x2GB DDR 2700ECC RAM) and make a small number cruncher. These are parts I got cheap, so I'd like to stay cheap. So I'm having trouble finding a chassis that can do a EATX (SSI EEB) board. I don't want to spend 240$ on a box to hold a board and one hard drive. I have no need for lots of server infrastructure parts or anything, just a down to earth basic chassis, rackmount or tower doesn't matter, that can hold an ATX power supply. Room for 2 hard drives would be nice but not necessary. Front ports don't matter in the slightest. It's booting off of a simple 1GB flash drive that will be basically permaplugged on the mainboard for esxi. So I don't even need a space for optical, though I do have a spare dvd reader I can stick in there if the case supports it.

Hope somebody knows something 🙂.

I'm also not against building my own if there was some kind of decent floorplan for one.

But I'd say look for used - there are a lot of old full tower beige cases floating around. Craigslist, mom & pop stores, etc.

Might need to drill the motherboard tray in an EATX case. From http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/258406-30-eatx-interchangable:
"SSI EEB will fit in a EATX case. Its dimensions are exactly the same 12x13. However the screw holes wouldnt line up, 3 to be exact. The corners line up and some intermediate ones do, and that might seem like enough, the mobo is held tight and safe... until you want to install ram or the cpu fans. Those missing screw hold around that area and you might end up bending it, so be careful. I recommend drill your own holes, I'm using a workaround, little holders to keep it up but its not secure in on the tray, but I'm definitely looking to get a new case."
 
Not sure if it would work but the HAF 932 will house a e-atx mb as stated in the specs. Although the look may not please you it'll be quiet and has great airflow. Is kinda big tho. Guess depending on your number crunching senario you may want some good airflow anyways!

Cooler Master store often has it in the refurb section for around $99 or so and sometimes has free shipping.

That case seems pretty nice, and I can find them with the googles for about 70$ shipped.

I'm still debating rack vs tower. I think I'll lean tower because the atx power supply goes in without issue (i think a rack has to be 4u to hold an atx power supply but I might be wrong). Anyways still looking (going to be another 1.5 weeks till i get paid anyways 😛 ).

Just wanted to point it out to you if you have not looked at it yet. If you don't mind the look it has great airflow so it'll keep your stuff cool with alot of room for expansion.

Good luck on your quest for the perfect case. I'm sure many are out there you just gotta find them....Looks like you have time to make a logical decision based on needs, cost, and heat if your worried about it 🙂
 
I looked around and saw that there's some 2u's that can hold full atx power supplies. I found the Norco RPC-270 at newegg and found it cheaper at compuvest.

Now it'll just be deciding who's best to go with, 2 or 4.
