Dual SoA mobos, how much, where?

Confused

Elite Member
hi. i'm looking into buying a dual Socket A mobo sometime soon, and cannot find anywhere that sells them. i will need a plce that will ship to the UK, and due to prices, i may just have to put in 2 Duron's until i have enough money to get 2 T'Birds or Palamino's.

so, any info/help on where i can get a dual SoA board from will be much appreciated, and i can get it running TA Seti 24/7.

thanks in advance

I dont know about where to buy, as of now the tyan thunder K7 is about it.

But...

I was looking into a dual athlon box myself but it appears that the athlon MP's are the only processors that are truely SMP capable, although the durons and tbirds appear to work their performance in the dual configeration really sucks, according to a review I read at GamePC http://www.gamepc.com/.

So until this gets sorted out, I've decided to go with a OC'D P4 on a asus p4t system, at least I know p4's really kick butt at SETI, I'll let someone else work out the kinks in the SMP athlons and I figure that the new case and power supply i have to get for the p4 will work with the dual athlon mp system that is in my future, but i have to produce wu's now to keep our mini team ahead of those other guys 😀

Yeah, I wouldn't put anything other than the Athlon MP chips into a dual motherboard. As far as I can tell, AMD is only certifying the Athlon MP chips as being SMP capable, so if you to fry your chip or your board by putting something else in there, you'd have to eat the cost. And at almost $500 for a Tyan dual motherboard, it's not a cost you want to be eating. 😉

BTW, if you're willing to wait for a month or two, MSI will have a cheaper 760MP motherboard out. It should cost around $200.

Good luck!
Nick
