How do 2 processors increase overall performance and by how much?

The only time you will notice much of a difference is when running progs that are designed for dual processors. What do you want to use your computer for?

Dual processors is going to help you in an OS that can use both CPUs, along with applications that are coded for it, or simply multithreaded. Not all games will take advantage of SMP, but many compilers, digital editing, etc. will. For 99% of the users out there, its overkill.
