DUAL processor motherboards!?

I couldnt find any documentation on dual processor motherboards.
I'm gonna be putting in two P4 2.8ghz 800FSB for a high end editing/visual motion graphics platform.

What would be anyone's recommendation about what motherboard to use for the best for the price?

Thank you!!

I don't know much about dual cpu mb's, but the Abit WI-2P should get your mouth watering. 🙂 Integrated SCSI and support for a boatload of memory would be ideal for video editing. How high end is your budget? This motherboard alone is well over the $500 mark.

The desktop Intel Pentium 4 processor is not dual CPU capable.

You must purchase a XEON processor if you want Intel SMP.

Yep, and that is gonna be some high $$$$$$$.

Better to either get a 800Mhz FSB P4 on a 875 or go Dual Athlon on a 760MPX board.

...better to check out sites that deal with this.
The P4C rocks.
Dual Xeons rock.
Dual AMDs almost rock, and maybe they might for his specific application(s).
Dual AMDs are cheaper.

Thank you so much!

Well I want to keep the dual procs so i'm probably gonna go for the AMDs for price reasons.
I'm also wanted to have a gig of ddr mem on there too so i just wanna make sure i can fit all that in there - AMD 760MPX board would work?

Yes, the 760MPX chipset can hold up to 4gig of Reg. Memory. I had 768mgs of Crucial Reg. ECC ram in my old board. I also ran Athlon XP's and they worked great.

-Stay away from the Tyan Tiger MP. It has very serious design problems.
-Athlon XP processors can be modded to MPs, reducing the cost by about half. It's not a sure thing.
-The MPX chipset supports up to 266MHz bus.
-You can have upto 4GB of memory, but only 3.5-3.8GB will be accessable on some boards
-No matter what the manual says, you really should buy registered memory. There is a 20-50% price premium on registred memory.
-You'll need an SMP aware OS like Windows 2000/XP Professional, Linux, or FreeBSD.
-I recommend the Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-P motherboard. 2Cpu.com has a review, and I have one.
-You'll need a robust PSU. I recommend 35A on the 5V rail.
-The MPX chipset is nearing the end of it's life. Just so you know.

hey, how about a 2x Opteron 240 + MSI hammer board. all can be had for about $1000 from newegg. no AGP slot but it does have PCI-X. if you are looking to blow some serious money =)

Even though the 760MPX is approaching the end of its life that doesn't mean he shouldn't purchase it. I don't forsee any new chipsets for the AthlonMP (I use my magic crystal ball to see that 😉 ) especially considering that the Operton is starting to move in and I'm sure AMD would rather have people buying Dual 244s rather than Dual 2200+s.

Either way the 760MPX should be a good choice since its the only choice 😉
