I have an Asus c-d PIII slot 1 dual processor motherboard. Is it absolutley necessary that the processors be a matched set? And the memory is to be rambus. Will anykind of RDRAM work. Also would like to know if winXP pro will work? Somebody gave me this board and I would like to set it up but don't want to spend alot of money on it.

It's best to have two matched procs, though you could probably get away with not using them. You might want to check the QVL from Asus for that board to see what kind of memory is qualified for that board.

If you don't already have the necessary CPU's and RAM, I wouldn't bother trying to resuscitate that system. You can get something new for less. The CPU's do not have to match, but it is recommended that they do. Yes, it will work in XP Pro.

speed should be the same.. the price of rdram is so high, its cheaper to buy new board..

what do you plan to run on it ? how much memory do you have ? I got a couple of rdram.. but i need to know first..

No, but again, it is recommended. And the CPU's obviously need to be SMP compatible to begin with.

Gaming on a 500MHz PIII? Good luck. You'd be far better off just installing the 733.
