Looks very nice. Is there anyway to raise the FSB on the mobo so you can get that clockspeed up alittle higher? It would well worth it if you could raise the fsb as long as it is stable of course :)

You may need a 24 pin PSU, I'd get something other than what you have there already. Also, don't skimp on the keyboard and mouse, they're the only things in a PC that normal people actually touch on a regular basis.

It really just boggles my mind about how people like to skimp $$$ on components that are a priority, but spend a $160 on a "Bling bling" ricers case and $450+ on video card. $384 for a pair Opterons, but spend $457 on a video card? Why not just spend the extra $10 per processor on a pair of 242's? $160 on a bling bling rice me with love case, but spend $48 on a power supply that was made in New Mexico somewhere and overly exaggerated specs?:confused::confused:

Some people....

Yeah I was gonna change my PSU after my mom raised the budget to 2k, I just haven't gotten around to it.

For the keyboard/mouse, I love how the I-Rocks look, but personally I haven't heard of them myself :) so I might change those too.

Remedy I'm gonna take your advice and upgrade to 242's, it's an extra 40 bucks total but it's cool.

Hmm been looking around...here's a 480W Enermax with SATA for 85 bucks, but it's only 20 pin. I'll look around a bit more after I shower so BRB!

yea your PSU Sucks. Although i would comment that spend money on a case is not a bad idea since its that part that has the longest staying power. How about a PSU from PCpower and Cooling?

PCP&C has some of the most expensive PSUs I've ever seen (180 - 200 for 510W). I heard Tagan was really good from a bunch of people right here in the forums so I'ma stick with it.

fortron is good, the efficiency is pretty decent, and it's well respected among the silent PC community.

not to crap on your comp, but you're not investing more in the sound, keyboard, mouse area of your computer?
Also what are your displays?

I didn't mean to totally ridicule your system and thread. But, I see this kind of stuff happen in our forum every single day @ 2cpu.com. But, If I were you. I would go check out the Tyan Tiger thread within our forum if you haven't done so already. Gives you better idea on what components are and aren't compatible and the alike.

GLHFGG's.

lol PSUs are still juggling around :) Switched to Fortron 530.

Oogabooga I'm only investing a bit into the keyboard and mouse right now because all I need are ones that work, if they are crap they can be upgraded later. My display is a 2-year old 17-inch HP flat-screen with a built in mic. I love it, don't wanna get rid of it, and I don't feel like spending an extra 300 bucks on an LCD for a while.

Remedy, I went to the site and read some of the posts...with the bios revision one guy got his temps down from 50 to like 20. Which is weird. Oh well, seems like everyone likes the Tiger, although it wasnt' made for OCing. Don't plan to OC much anyway.

I don't understand the allure of buying two bottom of the barrel CPU's, when for less you can buy a far superior single CPU system. For 2 grand, I'd much rather get the fastest system my money can buy rather than worthless bragging rights. AMD doesn't even sell a 1.6GHz Athlon 64. The slowest they sell is the 2800+ which runs at 1.8GHz. I assume you plan to game with that system judging by the small fortune you are spending on the video card. With some component adjustments you can get an A64 3700+ for less which will trounce a dual 242 (2600+ rating?) in gaming and almost everything else you'll probably be running. The money you can save by switching to a single CPU MB, non-ECC/registered memory, one HSF instead of 2 would allow you to purchase an A64 3700+ and have plenty of money left over to upgrade that pretty pathetic storage system. Dump the speakers too. If you're going to spend that little, don't bother buying any at all. An Enermax Noisetaker 420W costs less than the Tagan and is a better PSU as well. You shouldn't really need 2 optical drives in a system today, get rid of the Lite-On and buy a better keyboard/mouse combo.

That board also does not have anything better than 32/33 PCI slots which is one of the best arguments for going dual CPU, the higher bandwidth PCI options. If you're not willing break the bank, dual CPU systems are not for you. By trying to cheap out, you're just cheating yourself out of a far better performing system for less.

Pariah makes some good points.
____________________________

If your primary usage for this system is gaming, then dual-cpu setup is not how you want to spend your money.

On the PSU note, Tagan 480 is not a bad power supply since it = OCZ 420 which kicks the crap out of Enermax 420/475 and the like.

On the same forums you see ppl saying how OCZ are great PSU, and yet some people diss Tagan 480, when it uses exact same components as the OCZ power supplies.

Now are there better power supplies on the market than Tagan 480? SURE!! But does it suck? NO. Please read the reviews if you haven't. It is actually better than Antec 480.

If you change your system to a faster, single cpu, then Tagan 480 will work just fine, and you'll increase your gaming performance at the same time.

The advantage of going with Fortron 530, for example, is that it allows you to adjust the rail voltages by having adjustable pots inside the PSU. At the same time, Forton 530 is known to have an undervolting 12V rail.

Guys, I know what you are saying about the single vs dual in terms of gaming. Yes, I will be playing games, but I will also be doing a lot of other things on this comp, such as listening/downloading/ripping/burning music, DVDs, and the like.

Yes but for the same price FX53 will probably be faster. Dual-setup only helps in multitasking and programs that take advantage of the dual-setup. So far you haven't listed anything that stresses multitasking.

Pardon my rudeness, but I can't help but laugh when reading something like this. You really need to do more research and take off the buzz-word blinders if you think those are applications that will see any benefit from dropping 2 grand on a dual CPU system with no monitor.
