😕A co-worker of mine says he has a motherboard that supports both the AMD and Intel platforms. AMD Solt and Soket 370? I was wondering if anyone had heard of such a combination board. I personally think he's full of it.
Possible, but at a price that noone would ever pay, and so not done and don't expect it to be done.
There are (or at least were) PC cards for macs. You'd add this card and it would run the x86 code faster than the 68000 CPU interpreting it. Some early x86 servers allowed for daughter cards that contains their own CPU.
However, both of these are expensive high end solutions. Wanting an AMD or a *ntel is expensive and not high end.
Sounds like he's scored one of the older Tyan or other brand boards that has both a Slot1 and a Socket 370. You can tell him he's delusional :-D Now, if he claims to be able to run both at once, I suggest you run away very, very fast and hide...
If you want a discussion of why such a board would be impractical (and nigh unto impossible for any sane engineer) you can find more in discussions of how the different chipsets work.
