Dual PIII's and SMP

Hi all,

Just a couple questions? Do the PIII 500E and 550E slot 1 support SMP? If so I'm thinking of getting a pair and a Tyan 1834D dual slot 1 mobo. Does this board only support 100 and 133mhz bus speeds or also speeds inbetween? What are my chances of getting a 500E to run at 5x133? a 550E at 5.5x133, with proper cooling? What would be good slot 1 pIII heatsink/fan combo? Thanks in Advance!

P3 500E&550E SLOT 1 processors support SMP. All Slot 1 coppermine processors support SMP (except for the 1/1.13 Ghz versions); FCPGA coppermine are a whole different story (only cb0 support SMP, nothing earlier). I heard that the Tiger 100 does not have a /4 divider at 133; in other words, your PCI bus will be overclocked to 44Mhz even if your chips run properly (and they usually do; 90-95% of all slot 1 500E/550E/600E will do 667/733/800). I'd recommend you go with the Tiger 133 (Via Apollo Pro 133A chipset) Rev. F if you want better stability at overclocked speeds.

Thanks for the replies. The Tyan 133 is actually what I was looking at. Does it support any speeds besides 100 and 133? What would be a good heatsink fan combo for my chips if I run dual 550E's 5.5x133, that will fit on that board? Thanks again.

It seems this board doesn't give an option to increase the bus from 100 to 133...is this right? Or can you that with revision F? If not does anybody else know of a dual slot 1 PIII mobo that will let me adjust the bus? Thanks again.
