I will be building a dual (hey guys. for reference DUAL=2, DUEL=to fight or spar) processor box. What is a good, high quality dual board. I do not want the cheapest piece o' crap, I already had a BP6, which had its own issues. But I don't need the $800 Asus server class dual board either. I remember the Asus P2B-D being a good, stable BX slot 1 board, but I am sure it is outdated. What is a good one now?

Thanks!

from intel's view, there are none thats affordable...

Intel - Expensive - Rambus required - i815 = no dual

VIA - Cheap, DDR possible soon - not as stable - Eventually it will be.

Asus/MSI has dual fc-pga boards on the via chipset.

The MSI 694D Pro is an excellent board. Have two friends that have them and they both say that they're great.

I myself use the Supermicro P6DGE (440GX) and find it very friendly. It's a Slot 1 board so you'll need to get those FC-PGA adapters if you plan to use those flip chips. Also with BIOS v3.1 BETA W2K ACPI is finally fully supported. Supermicro has the P6DBE which uses 440BX platform as well. Basically the only difference is that the 440GX chipset supports 2GB RAM whereas 440BX 1GB. Only thing that you might not be used to is that the BIOS is one of those AMI BIOSes that use a windows like GUI interface.
