Dual Pentium 4

Are there any dual P4 motherboards on the market? I haven't came accross any and would like to know if there aren't if there will be in the future. Without considering money what are the advantages or disadvantages or a dual processor machine?? thanks

As far as I know, you are looking for a Xeon board. The Xeon is derived from the P4 and can run dual.

Can i use a P4 in a xeon bored or do i have to buy xeons and if i have to buys xeons where do i get them for a good price they aren't cheap!!

Good question. After a brief look at the specs for Intel's own P4 and Xeon boards, and Tyan's boards, I'm getting the impression that the Pentium4 proper is still not SMP-enabled and is not interchangeable with Xeon or Xeon MP processors and motherboards. Do you actually need a dualie? If you do, and you want an Intel duallie, you can go with Xeons or PentiumIII-S (or classic PentiumIII). AMD has some pretty powerful CPUs that will run dual. These Forums run on them, and here's one good reason why: they're good at database work.

Ok thanks I was really hoping they had dual P4 boards cause i have p4 and wanted to upgrade my mainboard. I have never used AMD and am afraid to.

What's your present system like? Maybe you can overclock it, many people are getting great overclocks on their P4's.

no. The only way to go dual P4 is to go Xeon. I wish that they would make some dual P4 stuff, but they dont figure the market is big enough, at least it wasnt really with the P3 even though I loved mine (damn RAM bottlenecking me....). I doubt there will be with all the different new chips on the horizon.
If you are going to go dual now, the best setup will be a dual Athlon MP/XP setup. The advantages will show in multitasking in multicpu enabled OSs, like windows XP, and in cpu intensive programs that windows can dedicate every oucne of juice to from one cpu while running the os on the other cpu... and it seems to do a good job at managing that. Also, a lot of apps like Photoshop and Premeire also utilize multithreading, and you can see the performance gains there, however, there is no SSE2 on the athlon architecture which those programs also utilize. Either way, they are going to be hella fast, and if you can afford to invest in a speedy dual athlon setup, then go for it... I was going to, but decided my money could be spent on other things....

If you have any questions ask...I have been looking at some of the more recent dual stuff myself so i might be able to help you choose if you decide to go that route.

EDIT : also, no reason to be afraid to go AMD.... if you can shell out the bux, dare I say that you will see the performance difference...the only thing scary about athlons is that they run hotter, and if you aren't a complete mechanical dummy like my friend scott nellis, then you should never have a problem getting a heatsink and fan on your processor to cool it down, cuz thats pretty much all it takes.

Ok well I will go with a dual athlon in a few years cause i recently built my system. But in a few years newer stuff will be out. Could u give me a motherboard and an Athlon processor that will still be good in a few years i am thinking about the 2100+?

by then AMD hammer baed chips will be running. might has well stick with the p4 for now.

amd athlon's have a pipeline of 12 and the p4's have a pipeline of 20, so the athlon's can do more MIPS (million operations per second) then a p4 can
