It's for a workstation, but it's also a primary PC so I want it to have good AGP performance, so ServerWorks is sorta out..

i840 is defanately out.

So that leaves a few Via Apollo Pro 133A Duals, or maybe i440BX...

Any other chipsets that I missed?

Also I'm looking for suggestions on a good dual BX board...preferably Socket370, though I suppose I could do Slo1 with Slotkets...

I saw Firing Squads roundup on the MSi, Asus and ABit dual Pro133A boards...but I can't seem to find much on dual BX boards...

You should get dual 1GHz P3's (100MHz FSB) in Slot 1 format + Tyan Tiger 100 revision F motherboard (440BX chipset).

That's the best performance wise since all VIA chipsets don't do so well.

We're actually working on a P3 SMP chipset comparison/review as we speak.

i840
i820
i815
ServerWorks III LE
i440BX
Via Apollo Pro 133a

I think that's them all.

I'll second GFORCE100's recommendation of the Tyan Tiger 100,
revision F. Super stable BX-based board. The Via based boards
are not only not as stable, but they're not even as fast EVEN
WITH A 133MHZ FSB!

I'm running dual P3700's @933 on a i440bx. If your vid card can handle it, this config blows away my friend's vp6. I don't use IDE so no ATA100 controller doesn't bug me. More stable and easier to install. Of course he can clock higher than 933, I can't.

Fandu, duallies with the i815? any good? any links to these mobos?

I have heard of dually 815 but have yet to see a production board.

I am going for a p2b-ds. IF your lucky you can get a good one taht'll run at 133 fsb.

Acorp is one of the i815's I'm aware of, there is one other which I can't remember the name of off the top of my head. Tom and Kyle (HardOCP) have both looked at the Acorp one. Nether of them are yet production boards. I'll see if I can get some pics up later from home.

I'll chip in with praise for the Tyan Tiger 100. I have one running my main production mahcine with dual celeron 464's. Super stable board, the best. Period.

As rlism said, if you can clock up the 440BX, performance is very competive.

I have a Voodoo5-5500 which I think can handle 89Mhz AGP...

I suppose a "BX133" would be tempting....

and I use a Promise Ultra100 for my hard drives, only my CD Roms and Zip drive have to go on the ATA33...so I woudln't care...

I went with the Tyan 840 motherboard for my dual 1 gig chip, the only downside is the Rambus. Not that PC800 bandwidth is a downside, IMHO.

I have a MSI 694 Via chipset motherboard with dual 933s, and it's had a few issues.

Check out 2CPU.com for more info.

Maybe not, but it's not terribly useful either when you are only using a 1.06GB/s FSB :p and it's more expensive...256MB PC133 is down to $110 canadian now....damn that's cheap!
