Dual P3-933 (Gateway 6400 server fiasco) vs. AMD 1.4???

OK here is the decision . . . Do I keep my Dual P3-933 Gateway 6400 server (I still have to put the second chip in it once I get the computer from GW) or give it to family member and build an AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz with DDR RAM? For those who weren't following the Gateway thread (1000+ now) the chipset on the server is the Serverworks III LE and it has a SCSI 7200 RPM HD. The GW also does NOT have AGP slots. I'm not a hardcore gamer and I just bought the ATI Radeon PCI graphics card so that's what I'll be using if I keep the server. Both units would be running around 256 MB RAM (SDRAM for the server and DDR for the AMD). The server would also be my first jab at Win2K.

Comments/suggestions? Thanx in advance . . . basically I want to know if you were in this situation, what would you do. This would be my second computer . . . my existing system is a Dell 4100 P3-733/384 MB RAM/ATA100 30 GB/32 MB TNT AGP Video/SB Live!Value Digital + tons of peripherals.

Thanx!

I say go the t-bird route. or, if you have lots of cash sitting around (Read: send some my way), do that Tyan thunder mobo, with dual 1.2GHz Athlon MP's.

Tarobap, you said your not much of a gamer. Ok, that helps...
But you didn't list what you WILL use the system for?
-video editing
-download/file server/burning machine
-surfing web
-AOL?
-????

IMHO: That 6400 deal was targeted at small business use, or situations that will benefit from dual CPUs-(no-brainer right). The 6400 will NOT be that nice for a gaming rig, it just wasn't designed for it. It also will be OVER-KILL for a home ftp/file server-(heck, a p200 would be more than enough for basic home use). It DOES sound perfect for a home VIDEO editing rig, or similar high power tasks-(how many people need a home SQL server?). If i was into video editing i'd be all over this server.

Good Luck...

you said that you are not a hardcore gamer but that means that you probably play some games and who's to say that something new might come out that catches your eye. you don't want to have the 933's and limit yourself like that. the price verse what you are planning use it foris the most powerful decision/statement that you need to look over!
